Not a good week weatherwise but still managed to squeeze some fairly decent shots, mainly because I was at the right place at the right time. Once again a nice flock of Snow Buntings at Salthouse, and I got some hard fort for shots of them, not just because of the seed being sown everywhere either, the gulls have caught on to this and are hogging the area. As you can see in the photos one of the buntings is rung so I hope I can identify it from this. There were plenty of other birds about this area too, Barn Owl hunting, Harriers (Displaying), Peregrine, ect; Thursday morning I went to Santon Downham in the drizzle hoping I might see some Bramblings. What a surprise, on my own there and a huge flock of mixed chaffies and Bramblings, could have been 100+ Bramblings, couldn't believe my luck they must have just flown in. They were all round the car eating the Mast and bathing in the puddles. At one time I counted 10 Bramblings 8 feet from the car in a small puddle, I was shaking. Later when it quietened down some guy came back from the little church at the end and said there was a Great Grey Shrike in the field there, 3 of us went to see it. In my enthusiasm to see it I stepped down a hole and smacked my camera and lens against my nose, claret everywhere and end of birdwatching, I may have busted my nose. It was all worth it though.
Great photography shots, a nice selection. The Brambling shots are cracking.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, It was nice to just watch those Bramblings. Dave.
